Work Experience

Work Experience is the short term placement of secondary school students (generally Year 10) with host employers so that students can learn about the industry and the workplace.

Students are primarily in the workplace to observe and learn but they may be given a limited number of tasks which they can complete under supervision.

Students often participate in work experience for one week blocks.  The host employer is required to pay the students a minimum of $5 a day (exemptions apply, please contact GRVEC for further information).  WorkCover and Public Liability is covered by education sectors, an Arrangement Form must be completed and fully signed by all parties before the placement commences for this coverage to be in place.  Schools will issue this form.

If you are an employer and would like to:

  • support local schools
  • help students make informed decisions about future careers
  • promote your industry
  • select students for casual or part-time employment

please contact Deb at GRVEC to discuss your options.
